      Course Objectives This course aims to engage students in critically thinking about popular culture and its role in society. It will investigate the ways in which entertainment is not merely entertaining but also a practice with social,\npolitical and psychological conditions and consequences.
      Learning Outcomes

      The students who succeeded in this course;

      • Critically evaluate popular cultural texts and practices.
      • Explain popular culture as a historical phenomenon.
      • Analyze popular culture in terms of social class and political conflict.
      • Explain the role of popular culture in the formation of the self.
      • Discuss the fundamental problems of cultural studies.
      Course Description This course will analyze and discuss popular culture and its role in the world. We will scrutinize the major theories of popular culture and a number of historical and contemporary discussions that have the status and function of culture at their center. The course consists of lectures, screenings and discussions revolving around critical analysis of and engagement withcontemporary examples of film, television, adverts and new media.
